Just a quick note: due to the incredible job done by Debian GIS (and especially Bas Couwenberg) you can actually get much of OSGeo live on your raspberry pi (and most other hardware) without much hassle: Eg by installing the gis metapackages as documented at [1]. You will see that the recently released "jessie" distributions contains many up-to-date GIS applications, and for many (including QGIS) even more recent versions by using backports [2]. I'm actually planning to create a package of the OSGeo live documentation, so those can be included in the future as well.
