Greetings list,

I'm trying to improve OpenVPN performance on a site-to-site link I have between 2 pfSense boxes.

- upstream at each site is provided by a VDSL connection delivering ~18Mbps
  - both pfSenses are PCEngines APU w/ 4GB RAM

I am currently only getting around 7Mbps each way via the OpenVPN tunnel, measured by running iperf back and forth between Linux servers at each end behind the pfSense.

I've tried the following:
  - switch between BSD cryptodev and no hardware crypto acceleration
  - disable / enable compression
  - disable encryption entirely

In each case, tunnel throughput is between 7 and 7.5Mbps.

Can anyone suggest what might be limiting it, or what (if any) OpenVPN parameters I should try playing with?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Chris
