There is more than the sticker price to be considered. Note that these are just vague numbers that would vary by the specific equipment power usage and local power costs. Atom, ~35W, 24h/day @ $0.05/kWh = About $15 per year. PE2850, ~250W, 24h/day @ $0.05/kWh = About $110 per year. Also have to factor in the extra cooling needed to handle the higher heat output of the server, but that is more difficult to figure. If you are in a place where power is included in your rent, it's no big deal, but over time that adds up considerably for most people.
