  sudo won't help if the commands aren't even in your search path, so
i just added those directories to my search path in my .bashrc, which
fixed things. just having to get used to these subtle differences
between ubuntu and debian.

  the other gotcha was finding out that debian trixie did not come
with a default deb sources file so i could install additional
packages; learned about the "new" deb822 format for source files and
added one for main.
