thanks for all the help!
This is v3, now sent with git-send-email which I found astonishingly easy to
use,
and without whitespace changes.
I promise to make use of the newly gained knowledge for any later patches
so your effort was not in vain.
One final question: Just sending the patch to the mailing list and
responding to any comments is sufficient, or should I explicitly include
a subsystem maintainer to get it included?
