OK, got a solution.

My guess is a bug in the capture of mouse clicks on the tutorial
floating area/window eventually because of some bug in overlaying it
over the main window.

I found that I can get rid of it OR simply see the tutorial if i left
click the button "Next" or "Hide Tutorial" AND keep the button pressed
WHILE moving the mouse pointer a little. This will make the button
change to a dark colour and seems to capture the click event.

  Cannot turn off/hide "Tutorial

Bug description:
  Running on Linux, Xubuntu 16.04 64 bit, using the AppIamge 2.1

  I click the hide button but nothing happens, do some thing in another
  part of the screen, and the Tutorial goes away, but as soon as I
  return to the clips area it comes back.
