Thanks. I also got to the point where openshot would start but throws up "terminate called after throwing an instance of 'openshot::ErrorEncodingVideo' Aborted (core dumped)" error upon trying to preview or play any media. Let's hope Jonathan is actually working behind the scenes to make openshot a success story despite all the delays.
