Systems scheduled for auto-errata updates on RHN Satellite server are not getting updates Solution Verified - Updated 2013-12-31T00:39:29-08:00 - English No translations currently exist. Environment Red Hat Network Satellite 5.3 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3 client system Issue When setting a system to 'Auto Errata Update', from the RHN Satellite server WebUI and when new errata is added to the RHN Satellite server, the actions stay 'pending' and never apply to the systems Resolution Update the Satellite to the latest available packages, including the errata advisory http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2010-0897.html <http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2010-0897.html> On the client system, clear the yum cache and sync the system's profile package list: # yum clean all # rhn-profile-sync Tell the client system to check in and pick up the scheduled errata: # rhn_check If an errata advisory has been scheduled the Auto Errata Update, but the action failed to update the package for any reason, the errata will not be re-scheduled automatically. To re-schedule them: Click on the system profile name from the Satellite web UI's "Systems" tab Click the "Edit These Properties" link on the system's Details tab. Uncheck the "Auto Errata Update" checkbox and click the "Update Properties" button at the bottom of the page. Repeat the previous two steps, this time re-enabling the "Auto Errata Update" setting. Root Cause incorrect channel cache files on the client system There is a known issue in which clients with Auto-Errata Update check in and attempt to install the updates before the Satellite has updated the necessary channel cache. Satellite errata advisory http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2010-0897.html <http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2010-0897.html> resolves this issue, so that the Satellite updates the channel cache before it schedules Auto-Errata Updates. Diagnostic Steps Here are the steps to reproduce: Install Red Hat Enteprise Linux 5.3 system and register it to the RHN Satellite server From the RHN Satellite WebUI, set the 'Auto Errata Update' to 'Yes'. tail /var/log/up2date see that all the updates were applied on the system and RHN Satellite WebUI was showing the correct status. Try clearing the server side cache: # rm -rf /var/cache/rhn/ Try installing a lower version of yum and see if it fixes the issue. # yum install yum-utils -y # yumdownloader yum-3.2.19-18.el5_3.1.noarch # rpm -Uvh --oldpackage yum-3.2.19-18.el5_3.1.noarch.rpm Product(s) Red Hat Satellite or Proxy <file:///taxonomy/products/red-hat-network-satellite-or-proxy> Component yum <file:///components/yum> Tags errata <file:///tags/errata> repomd <file:///tags/repomd> satellite <file:///tags/satellite> taskomatic <file:///tags/taskomatic> This solution is part of Red Hat’s fast-track publication program, providing a huge library of solutions that Red Hat engineers have created while supporting our customers.
