Mea culpa, I seem to have been in error there. Miles had a suggestion for a "linux-hotplug" mailing list; this could have been a good issue to coordinate on such a smaller (lower traffic?) list. In this case, the ball just got dropped when it looked like this patch wasn't even going to Linus.
