Fine. Do this, just check the default mouse as suggested by Linux during
installation. Was yours different from default. It worked for me. My
logitech three-button mouse is recognized as an MS serial mouse [of
course it is a serial mouse itself :-D] but I am yet to emulate three
buttons. Anyways. Check this.

Shit, that is bad. It the connection otherwise OK? It works fine in
Windows? Do one thing... choose the first keyboard mentioned standard US
layout 101 key etc. Did you choose differently? [Can not help you there]

? Does it detect cards at the time of installation? I no not think so.
You are supposed to configure X later. AFTER the installation is mostly
over. Right? Anyway, a better idea is to run xf86config or XF86Setup
after installation.

No. None. Monitor is always the most humble part. Have you got your
monitor's manual with you? Supply options from there to xf86config. Do
not use Xconfigurator.

No problem. Complete directory structure will be there by the time your
machine is up. The 'partitions' will not be there.. that is all. By the
way, you did not create any other partitions due to the message of 'No
free primary' by any chance?

Right. Seems you did not install LILO in the master boot record. Am I
right?
As for the CD, it is supposed to autoboot into installation mode. So
that is OK.
Probably you can choose to upgrade your system rather than reinstalling
it; with no packages selected, to save time.

Did you put a floppy in the drive? Was the floppy error free? Check that
using 'format' of your windows98.

Right. DOS/Windows connectivity means that you should be able to
interface this machine with DOS/Windows/Netware machines over a network.
may be as a server for files/prints. Reading Linux from windows has also
been accomplished. Search for ltools on www.

Ab itna to bola. Koshish karo. Without looking at the machine, at least
I can not further solve the hardware related problems.

All the best
