Here's how I did it with FreeBSD 4.0-current.
1. Installed Linux first with LILO on MBR
2. Installed FBSD on it's own partition
3. Added an entry in lilo.conf similar to NT/Win9X
4. Installed the FreeBSD bootmanager in the first sector of the FreeBSD
partition.
So the boot goes through LILO -> FreeBSD boot manager, which unlike LILO
can read the file system. So I can do ls and list the kernels availble
and then pick the one I want and bingo! FreeBSD and Linux boot together.
