This is a suggestion, since exact nature of your problem is not clear.
Run 'depmod -a; modprobe -a /lib/modules/preferred/fs/vfat.o;mount /c:'
Run this command as root.
Hope that solves your problem. For more info run 'man modprobe'
I discovered this when I found that some modules like vfat.o & ppp.o gets dropped
strangely. I was able to dial out using kppp.
But when redialing on disconnect, there was an error saying that 'This kernel has no
support for ppp'. I am not able to figure out why the modules are getting dropped.

it works quite fine for me when i do through fstab.
