Tusar K Nayak saw fit to inform LI that:

Quoting Ashley who invited flames by posting _TWO_ 180k attachments:

>>>I've just got an internet acct. with my ISP. I want to set up my mail from
>>>my linux m/c. I have set up kppp and can browse the net.

Lovely

>>>Now for the stupid part. Is it possible for me to set up a mail server on
>>>my m/c and have some way of having seperate e-mail accounts for my family

Is it a permanent (24*7) connection (such as a cablemodem or
adsl)? Preferably with a static ip? Then just install linux and
register your own domain, set up dns .... or see http://www.dhs.org /
http://www.dynodns.org / etc etc.

Or if it is just a dialup, set up accounts for all yr family members at
mail.com / bigfoot.com etc, forwarding to your isp's account. Create
logins for yr family members on yr linux box and use procmail to filter
mails to each user.

Easy ;)

As Tusar says

>Everything is okay till you ask! But not after when u send an attachment
>of 180K. please go through the guidelines of a mailing list before
>posting.

Lotus Notes has gone crazy in your office - I dont know wtf that
attachment was - but call your sysadmin and have this fixed please.

>And I am surprised why it was not filtered out!

Majordomo checks for some specified mime/types like text/html, text/v-card
etc etc which it filters out. This one is a totally strange and
nonstandard thing. Of course, if thaths bounces anything with
application/octet-stream he will be quite ok ;)
