My parents have a 5600 series printer and tried to use third party cartridges. I'm not sure on the details, but my father has sworn off them and now buys original HP ink. I have a F2480 and also only buy original HP ink. Anecdotally, I have heard that while third party cartridges are cheaper, they print less pages per cartridge. I'm sorry to say that I don't have a reliable source for this or any way to run the numbers, but presumably, in the long run, non-HP ink doesn't pay.
