You can edit the rdf file in the extension to support later version (true
for Thunderbird as well).
A FF (and Thunderbird) extension is just a zipped folder with a wacky
extension.
Open the zip, locate install.rdf, open it in a text editor. It's a simple
xml file. Find the <version> tag and change the value for whatever you want.
If I recall correctly it will install to anything less than or equals to
the value in the <version> tag.
I did this successfully to my old FF extensions that didn't upgrade fast
enough between the 3-6 jumps. After that Mozilla fixed it so it's no longer
an issue. I think.
