You could try and build your own with a raspberry pi (which you can install linux on) and a USB cellular modem, which seems to be possible: http://shkspr.mobi/blog/2012/07/3g-internet-on-raspberry-pi-success/
You would need to attach a power source to the whole thing, but it would still be relatively compact.
