It works just like GA - by JS code added to pages, and reporting to WP's
servers (you're identified by your WP API Key - like Akismet).

That's the JS it includes: http://stats.wordpress.com/e-200936.js (at least
on my blog it includes that... I installed the extension a long time ago,
and I see the year in the file name, so I guess it's current. I would assume
'36' is the week number of the year 2009... - interesting version control
method ;) )
