If I remember correctly, that method only works with USB cable, not via Bluetooth. If you want to connect via bluetooth you will need to pair your cellphone via command line tools (hcitool scan, rfcomm) and use wvdial with your APN settings. If this works for you I can provide details once I get home (got my wvdial.conf there). You can also search the mailing list archive, people have done this already.
