Hi Dotan.

Yes, Ubuntu has good hardware support. So does Mandriva, which is what I'm
using. I've encountered several bugs, but I'm on Mandriva Cooker, which is
the Mandriva bleeding edge, and so it's not really an indication of anything.

OK. My impression from the mailing lists of popular distributions is that they
tend to be very high-volume. I'm subscribed to cooker and [EMAIL PROTECTED] and
I
need gmail.com to properly handle them. Of course, even gmail.com could not
properly cope with the volume of LKML.

Yes. However, I've ran into a few bugs on Ubuntu Gutsy back when I used it at
work. I started with one distribution before the long-term support. I also
didn't like Gutsy as much as I liked Mandriva Cooker. For example, aptitude's
output was very verbose with the informative line in the middle. Or Andy
Lester's Ack ( http://petdance.com/ack/ ) was not available. And I also found
using RPMs, the rpm command and urpmi more intuitive and UNIXy for me than
dpkg and its ilk.

I didn't encounter it myself - Gutsy worked fine for me. But see:

The bad thing about hardware is that it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.
The good thing about software is that it's consistent: it always does not
work, and it always does not work in exactly the same way.
