Thanks for all your help. In the end I decided to do what I should have done, had I RTFM'ed. I was trying to upgrade a KnoppMyth system (MythTV integrated into a Knoppix system) by doing a debian upgrade.
BAD IDEA. It seems there is a newer version of KnoppMyth based on Etch instead of Sarge and it has an upgrade option. Of course my system was so messed up already that I had to start over from scratch. It seems it was much faster to do a wipe and re-install than the upgrade anyway. I was able to recustomize it pretty quickly, except I lost my TV channel definitions. Since I don't use it to record TV, it does not matter. I've saved all your emails for future reference. I'm sure someday I'll have to work on a debian system for real. :-) Geoff. -- Geoffrey S.
