I really can't comment on this company in particular, but people
on other lists I'm on routinely complain that offers like these
simply don't exist in the real world. If you carefully read the
terms and conditions, you find that they can and will terminate
your service if you actually approach the limits they claim
you have.

It's done in such a way that what they do is legal in the U.S.
and not considered false advertisement, however what you expect
never really happens.

This may be better than some companies, because if they cut you off, you
are out the $7 or maybe $84 for an entire year's commitment, but don't
wake up to find a $600 bill for last month's "overages", which has
happened to some people using other hosting companies.

To skip forward, NetVision's $100 a month package is relatively
cheap for what they are offering and will actually provide.

I don't know if it really matters, because that's about average.
Pinging www.bluehost.com from my house gave me an average ping time of
412ms, which is a one way time of about 206ms. Too slow for VoIP
and videoconferencing, but not too bad for streaming video.

This was at 15:30, at 20:00, Friday or Saturday, it's probably twice
to three times that. :-(

As I said, for Israeli service, that's about right. Real, honest performance
from the U.S. is not much cheaper.

At one time HOT offered me 4mbits per second UPLOAD, I don't know if they
actually deliver it or the cost. I'm afraid to ask as I can't afford it,
but would take it in an instant. :-)

That would be more than enough if you can live with HOT's and NetVision's
outages. They are not "five nines" (99.999%) reliable, For example, they were
down for a while today. I have no way of knowing who was actually down,
HOT, Netvision, or the bridge between them. It does not matter to me,
I can live with the interruptions and as far as I am concerned, down is
down, no matter who or why.

The other option is to go to a different approach. I was looking into a
"push" technology where you pick a program or subscribe to a "channel"
and then it is delivered to your computer in the background. The cheap
way of doing it is BitTorrent.

Someone else had the same idea and actually went beyond the proof of
concept stage. It used to be called the "Democracy Player" and now it
is called Miro. http://www.getmiro.com/

Depending upon whom you are trying to reach and with what, then this
may be exactly what you need.

If you do explore the 4m option, please let me know how much it costs.

Geoff.
