You're right, but like I said, I don't want to modify the image files. These image files are precious, and I don't want even the slightest risk of buggy software ruining them, or one software making changes to them that another program won't be able to "eat". Another problem with in-file metadata is that sometimes I want to send pictures to others, but then I want to send them the original file, not one with my (potentially) personal tags. My hope was that all metadata will be kept in a one simple file, holding a map from an image checksum to its metadata. By using image checksums (e.g., md5) and not filenames, I will be able to move images on the filesystems or between machines without losing track of the metadata I recorded for them. > just reflect/index what's in the EXIF and not replace it, that way you > can always trust every other app can use the metadata out of the box (if > it doesn't use EXIF it's not worth your time anyway). In my (pipe) dreams, there will be a standard metadata-map format (of the type I described above), that all applications will know how to parse and/or edit. -- Nadav Har'El | Sunday, Aug 12 2007, 28 Av 5767 [EMAIL PROTECTED] |----------------------------------------- Phone +972-523-790466, ICQ 13349191 |Tea or coffee?
