download the software, get a 30-days evaluation license, and see if this
actually solves the problem. better then to pay up-front and then fount
it does not help you.

I installed Windows XP Pro without a hitch on VMware Server 1.0.1 build
29996 on top of Debian Etch (kernel 2.6.18-3-k7) and it works pretty
well. It even lists the webcam (a Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000) in the
"VM->Removable Devices->USB Devices" menu.
But the driver installation process (downloaded qc848enu.exe from
Logitech's web site) asks me to "reconnect" the webcam during its
installation process. When I physically disconnect and reconnect the
camera I see that it properly disappears and re-appears in the
above-mentioned VMware menu, and the Windows system tray pops-up a
notification about a new unknown hardware, but the driver setup program
doesn't seem to get what it asks for.
I also tried to run the VM I created using the free Player (1.0.2 for
Linux, installed from the tar ball), it feels that it runs faster but I
get the same behaviour.
Digging VMware web site (Google didn't help much) I found the release
notes of VMware WorkStation 5.0
(http://www.vmware.com/support/ws5/doc/releasenotes_ws5.html

webcams, microphones, and speakers.

So what can I do? Is buying Workstation 5 the only solution for this?
BTW - in case this is related - the Skype which runs on the hosted
Windows keeps warning me that it doesn't find sound hardware.
