Hello,

Speaking of Beryl and friends, has anyone managed (and is it possible at
all) to configure Debian Etch to take maximum advantage of the hardware of a
ATI Radeon 9000 (RV250) to display OpenGL-based applications?

For that matter I'd even go with the binary drivers if that's what it takes.

I'm just a Google Earth buff and also VERY curios to see Baryl/Compriz
running, not to mention the possible other speedups which might help other
day-to-day applications.

So far I tried to google for a long time but haven't found a link which will
actually confirm whether this is even possible, it looks like this hardware
is falling rapidly below the"supported" threshold, but this is what I'm
stuck with for now.

Some details:

1. "sudo lspci -v -v -v" shows the following about the card:

The motherboard is a Gigabyte 7N400 (NOT "Pro" or anything else) with an
nVidia nForce2 chipset.

And Debian Etch comes with xserver-xorg 7.1.0, though the "video ati"
package is in version 6.6.3-2, for what it's worth.

Thanks,
