I'm glad Ilya answered first, or I would have thought that maybe I'm
stuck in an opinion without letting reality check in.

Novell, at the moment, are a fish in a barrel. Once you decided that the

Well, the thing is that I have never heard of Hula before today. I have
never considered it when I needed such a capability in the past.
According to what Ilya says, this is no accident on my part. I don't see
anything here that cannot be easily explained by a simple economical
decision (i.e. - cost effectiveness of continued development does not
justify continued work on the project).

A little over a year ago I made the same decision regarding Lingnu
efforts in PgOleDb. And yet, I have, surprisingly, no unholy alliance
with Microsoft (that I'm aware of).

I think this will be the true lacmus test for this statement. If we
start seeing mass cancellation of investment in FOSS projects, then I
can say you may have a point. Canceling one staggering project does not
count as "mass" in my book.

Not only do they seem to keep the entries, they did not even pull the
project from the web. Code already written is still available. The web
page is still up. The developer in question made every attempt to say
that there will still be Novell employees working on it non-full time
(presumably, on their own time). Add to that the fact that the software
is, still, free, and I'm finding it a bit hard to find what the fuss is
about.

A few years ago a new Linux distribution came along. It was called
"Lindows", and it promised to use Wine in order to run your existing
Windows applications on it. A couple of years later the company decided
that Wine was not getting there, and stopped sponsoring any more work on
it. Is that also an evil thing to do?

In conclusion, I think that this email is a bit paranoid.

P.s.
Since some of the list's administrators have seemed to jump those guns
in the past, threatening actions, I would like to clarify that though I
think that Peter's email is paranoid, I have no reason to believe that
Peter himself is paranoid.
