Well, I tried this, but with no success. The thing is, that I don't know what to use in place of "sambabox". I tried using by box's IP address, and the name that comes back from dig -x, but all I get is:

The network path was not found.

I normally use the short name of the host. In order for it to work, the
name must be in DNS and the XP system must be properly set up for DNS.

IP addesses such as \\192.168.1.1\sharename also work.

To set up the XP system, go into the tcp/ip control panel. You check the
DNS settings, it must have a hostname and domain specified and the dns
server that reports the proper name of your samba box needs to be in
the search list. It probably should be at the bottom.

Make sure you can ping the smaba box from the windows machine.

Simpler yet, just put the linux hostname and correspondig IP address in the hosts file under c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
