indeed, in my search for alternatives to FXO I learned the following: * Bezekint (074 service) indeed uses SIP, but they are really new at this, and don't know about the protocol details. However Nir Simyonovich hinted he is one of their suppliers, and Asterisk is part of the infrastructure, and so interfacing it with a phone switch should be smooth. (I'm assuming that I can have my Asterisk behave like a SIP client for incoming calls, I don't know yet how I can ask them to take over handling multiple calls myself at MY end instead of having their PBX do it, they promissed they will get back to me) * 012 (072 service) also has a service or two they may be able to offer me, but they two were not too clear about the details. I have a meeting with them next week. * Hot (077 service) is using a cable link protocol, directly on DOCSYS, therefore nothing like SIP or Asterisk compliance. you have to use their ATA. At the very least I would have expected this little detail to mean that the ATA takes on a separate slice of bandwidth from the Internet connection and therefore can't be squelched by heavy downloading, but no such luck. Nir tells me all the above solutions suffer from jitter, and this one is no exception. Finally, not VoIP, but a cheaper hookup, bezeq would not upgrade POTS to ISDN anymore, but you order them starting at 930 NIS for the most basic NT (S-bus only) or 1460 NIS for an NT with two FXS ports. Even If your BRI card speaks U-bus directly, you STILL have to get the NT. shmucks. However I think a BRI card should be cheaper and allow smarter options than FXO to a POTS. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who helped me with pointers this week! Unfortunately I was told today by my client that due to cash shortage he's putting this Asterisk project on hold. I'm all enthused though (in the schwoong, as they say in Germany) and looking for a new vict^H^H^H^Hclient to try Asterisk on... anyone? :) -- Do not utter in vain Ira Abramov http://ira.abramov.org/email/ ================================================================= To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
