What do you mean "switch to the USB drive"? Once it's connected it looks like
just another mass-storage device to both Linux and Windows.

coLinux is famous for making it possible to run Linux under Windows, and
it's open-source.  I don't know where it stands today in comparision
to the other
virtualization solutions which popped up since.

I think it's still alive. I saw an interview with the manager on some web site
a few months ago.
