I should have searched better before I posted.
I found a web page that covers my TV card and many of the questions.

This covers the command line TV recording. I still have the MythTV and
YES questions.
Mainly how do I control the YES box from the linux machine?
Which distro for MythTV (though it looks less likely).
Can I control both with a remote (not necessarily the same one)?
