Well after finaly getting the Red Hat Fedora Core 4 system to do
exactly what I wanted, I decided to mess things up.

We've decided to have YES installed and they are going to install a
receiver in the room with the computer. Since I have a old 21 inch
monitor, I am going to hook it up to the computer and use it to
watch TV and DVDs.

I figure the best way to do it is to use MythTV. I have the following
questions.

Is there a way of recording off the air from my TV card without using
MythTV such as a command line driven tv recorder program? For example,
I could say something like at 2100 "<recorder program> file.mpg 30minutes".

Even better would be to have some sort of interface to the Yes box. What
hardware do I need?

For example:

        at 2059
<remote control program> turn on yes box
        sleep 10 seconds
        <remote control program> switch to chanel 999
        sleep 30 seconds
        <recorder program> file.mpg 30minutes.
        ^d

If I decide to use MythTV is there a prefered distro? I had problems
installing it on Fedora Core4 and never got it in. In the process it
messed up Xine and I had to uninstall it an reinstall it.

Can I set it up to use a remote control? The remote sensor and control
for my TV card are on a boat to Kansas, so they are not useable.

Can I control both the MythTV program and the Yes box from the computer?
What hardware do I need.

Off topic, are there any hacks for the Yes Max (PVR)? I know that MythTV
does almost the same thing, but it's too complicated for my wife and kids.

Thanks,

Geoff.
