I've never used nfs before since aside from my computer, all the other machines on my network were Win98 so I used Samba.
I convinced my wife to try Mandriva2006 and she's quite happy with it. So now I wanted to use nfs to share files. I set up nfs in both directions (amazingly easy to do - no comparison to Samba). My wife's machine shoshana.solomon can properly access the one directory I allow her. In the other direction, I want my machine shlomo1.solomon to be able to mount the entire shoshana.solomon file system. I mounted shoshana.solomon on /mnt/shoshana with no problems and can see the entire disk. Now here's my problem. I can enter "almost all" directories with Konqueror, but there are three directories that give me a problem and I can't understand why, or what's different in these directories. /mnt/shoshana/boot and /mnt/shoshana/home both show up as empty directories (which is obviously not true). /mnt/shoshana/root shows up as a locked directory and can't be entered (even when I tried to run konqueror as root) With the exception of root which obviously has different permissions, I don't see any reason for these three directories to act differently. Here's /etc/export from shoshana.solomon / shlomo1.solomon(rw) Here's the relevant line from /etc/fstab on shlomo1.solomon shoshana.solomon:/ /mnt/shoshana nfs defaults 0 0 And here are the permissions as I see them after mounting shoshana.solomon [EMAIL PROTECTED] solomon]# mount /mnt/shoshana [EMAIL PROTECTED] solomon]# cd /mnt/shoshana [EMAIL PROTECTED] shoshana]# ls -la total 164 drwxr-xr-x 25 root root 640 Jan 23 17:42 ./ drwxr-xr-x 9 root root 216 Jan 23 17:11 ../ -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jan 23 17:42 .autofsck drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 2624 Jan 15 22:24 bin/ drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 Jan 5 23:49 boot/ drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 Jan 22 19:55 c/ drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 Jan 22 19:55 d/ drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 Jan 17 17:13 data/ drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 80 Jan 12 15:44 data1/ drwxr-xr-x 25 root root 143408 Jan 6 00:31 dev/ drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 Jan 22 19:55 e/ drwxr-xr-x 78 root root 6480 Jan 23 17:42 etc/ drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 Jan 5 23:49 home/ drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 80 Jan 5 22:46 initrd/ drwxr-xr-x 11 root root 4112 Jan 23 17:42 lib/ drwxr-xr-x 8 root root 192 Jan 13 15:52 mnt/ drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 Jun 16 2005 opt/ drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 Jan 5 23:49 proc/ drwx------ 24 root root 1264 Jan 23 17:41 root/ drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 5912 Jan 23 16:36 sbin/ drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 Jan 5 23:49 sys/ drwxrwxrwt 9 root root 408 Jan 23 17:43 tmp/ drwxr-xr-x 12 root root 312 Jan 6 00:31 usr/ drwxr-xr-x 17 root root 432 Jan 6 00:05 var/ -rw-rw-r-- 1 root root 219 Jan 18 16:50 .xawtv [EMAIL PROTECTED] shoshana]# Any clues would be appreciated TIA -- Shlomo Solomon http://the-solomons.net Sent by KMail (KDE 3.4.2) on LINUX Mandriva 2006 ================================================================= To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
