I tried both Failsafe gnome and Failsafe terminal options. In failsafe gnome I got the splash screen and stack on this splash. On failsafe terminal I got back to gdm. I have GNOME, KDE and XFCE, I tried all of them and got the same error. While on root I can log in to whatever window manager I want. I also tried switching to kdm which did not help, each option I tried returned me back to kdm. I tried looking in /var/log/messages and could not find anything related.
