I think you're wrong. 100$ are, more or less, 100$ more than a volunteer free software author would get otherwise. This is not enough to get commercial companies to do it, true, but I don't think that was the intention either.

If this particular problem matters enough to enough people, then they will join in on the bounty, and the pot will increase. If not, and it is really not that interesting to anyone, then Aviram gets to keep his money.
