Indeed. In a couple of postings on this list about a two years ago (see http://nadav.harel.org.il/homepage/musing/freedomimportant), I pointed out that not only Pesach, but a couple other major Jewish holidays, are about celebrating freedom: Another relatively-obvious "freedom" holiday is Hannukah, which celebrates our freedom of religion (the greeks tried to force us worship their gods). Yet another holiday which I claimed is about freedom, is Yom Kippur. This requires a bit of explanation (and I bet some readers will disagree with me anyway). In Yom Kippur, one celebrates, or more accurately, spends a day thinking about, one's freedom to choose one's own actions. You were given a year of complete freedom to do as you please, and now it's time to look back at your choices. Did you make wise choices? Did you hurt yourself or anyone by these choices? Did you violate the rules of society or of God by your free choices? Should you be making different choices next year? -- Nadav Har'El | Monday, Apr 25 2005, 17 Nisan 5765 [EMAIL PROTECTED] |----------------------------------------- Phone +972-523-790466, ICQ 13349191 |Share your knowledge.
