most likely these applications use the GNOME font settings - IIRC at least LinNeighborhood is a GTK+ application. try to set the fonts for GNOME using gnome-font-properties (also available as Menu->System->Configuration->GNOME->.. , at least under GNOME) -- Oded ::..
