Hi,

I just installed MDK 10.1 on a new machine. My old one died so I really stated from scratch.

The bad news is that I went through hell doing this install, but I won't bore the list with everything that went wrong. Murphy's Law rules.

The good news is that I solved most of the problems either by GOOGLEing or copying various config files from my backups. I'm a backup fanatic and keep several copies on a seperate disk and on CDs - so this really saved my life. :-) !!!

I do still have a few issues that I haven't been able to solve, so I hope someone can help. Here are two that are bothering me at the moment.

1 - I have a cron script that checks my ADSL connection every 2 minutes and re-connects if needed. It no longer works and I discovered that the reason is that after running pptp, the routing table is not properly updated. The solution is to run the following as root:

"route add -net default gw a.b.c.d ppp0" where a.b.c.d is the IP address of the P-t-P connection. Since I don't have a permanent IP, this obviously means that I have to manually run this command after getting the IP with ifconfig, so the cron script is pretty useless. On my old machine (MDK 10.0) this was not necessary. I assume I screwed up some configuration file, but I can't find what I've done wrong.

2 - Some (but not all) non-KDE applications run with completely unreadable fonts. Specifically j-pilot and LinNeighborhood are completely unusable because I can't read anything - menues, button text, toolbars, etc. These applications worked for me before and in this case too, I can't figure out what I've screwed up.

Any help would be welcome

TIA
