Both are commercial companies around a free code base. You have to mess with packages. Otherwise upgrades won't work. Unless you expect your users to rebuilt all of your packages. If you want to make a simple and trivial installation you have to assume many things about the packages, and packages (or whatever components you use) have to adhare to strict policy.
