I used to be on "unstable" but was hit with fresh bugs from time
to time, even using apt-listbugs, the versions in unstable are
too new to get their bug reports in. I can't recall having
my system broken since I "downgraded" to testing, and I upgrade
packages almost every weekend.
P.S.: Believe it or not, but the ability to utilize RSS feeds was the
"killer application", which compelled me to switch from RH8.0 to Debian
Testing.
You shuold try kmail/kontact :)
Thunderbird is great at it too. Only gripe I have with it is that it
doesn't follow links in-window and there is no way to get subscribed
articles (yet, they are aware of this problem).
As for the original question - use Thunderbird. It has nice direction
support (ALT-CTRL-X in latest version on testting).
