    | We use 22 machines with RedHat (mostly 7.3) for all our business data
    | processing (not just web servers or file servers).

    | I don't know, we never used Solaris (we used DG/UX before we moved to
    | Linux in 1999).

We have Solaris servers. More & more we're using Linux servers, but
we did recently buy some Solaris servers. All of our student UNIX
stations are linux.

It seems to me that Sun is increasingly gearing Solaris for customers
with lots of money to invest, usually in Solaris plus other commercial
SW (e.g., for storage, backup, etc.). Linux is grabbing the low-end
market, though I imagine companies with money to spend are also
getting Linux.

My opinion: keep your Solaris skills up, but branch out into Linux.
