Hi list
I recently upgraded my laptop, a Compaq Evo N410c, to kernel 2.6.8 (Mandrake binary RPM). When I try to boot into the new kernel, I get the following boot messages from the kernel:
mice: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice i8042.c: Detected active multiplexing controller, rev 1.0. serio: i8042 AUX0 port at 0x60,0x64 irq 12 serio: i8042 AUX1 port at 0x60,0x64 irq 12 serio: i8042 AUX2 port at 0x60,0x64 irq 12 serio: i8042 AUX3 port at 0x60,0x64 irq 12 synaptics reset failed synaptics reset failed
After which the computer freezes and nothing happens. I also can't CTRL-ALT-DEL and must hard power cycle the computer (no hard reset switch). When I boot into the default Mandrake 10.0 official kernel, 2.6.3-7, everything works well, but dmesg shows the same messages, except that the "reset failed" message is shown 3 times and after that:
Unable to query Synaptics hardware. input: PS/2 Synaptics TouchPad on isa0060/serio4 serio: i8042 KBD port at 0x60,0x64 irq 1 input: AT Translated Set 2 keyboard on isa0060/serio0
And then continues normally.
Is there some way of turning off the synaptics driver and using only the normal PS/2 mouse input, in the kernel command line ?
TIA
