Dear All, Next Monday (9/8/2004), 18:30, we begin arranging "Welcome to Linux 2004", which is to be Haifux's 6th series. This year we are going to try to join efforts among Linux Clubs in Israel: Haifux (Haifa), Telux (Tel Aviv) and the newly re-forming JLC (Jerusalem).
The events we plan will include: A Linux day, including an installation party - New ideas from Telux are that there may not be a need to install computers. Still, another purpose of the party is solving problems on brought computers, configuring hard stuff, and demonstration and interaction. So this should be discussed. A series of 6-8 lectures, ranging in time from about the second week of the semester until no later than the mid-term exams. Topics and order of lectures will be discussed. Last year's schedule of Haifux's events is to be found here, along with slides: http://www.haifux.org/newcomers/timetable.html Lecturers and assistants will hopefully be set. Slides may be shared between the Linux Clubs. In the meeting on Monday, you can volunteer to be in charge of a topic. These topics range from educational to Public Relations to installations: A person in charge of the Linux Day in Haifa A person in charge of each Lecture (and an assistant) A person in charge of all the lectures A/Some person/s in charge of choosing and preparing the distribution (possibly the same person in charge of a Linux Day some place) A person in charge of relations with sponsors A person in charge of PR A person in charge of feedback (designing feedback forms, distributing, collecting, analizing) A recent development: Burning Disks: Hamakor have already announced their intention to burn CDs of Kazix and Ehad (or something similar). See: http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg01373.html Hamakor also intends to work on sponsors and newspaper ads, according to the same mail Alon Altman sent. We meet in the Technion, Taub 3. See http://www.haifux.org.org/where/html for arrival details. If you wish to be in charge of a topic, it is advised for you to show. If you wish to voice your opinion, come along. If you just wish to see what is going on, you are also welcome. If you wish to help around during the installation party, and you do not wish to affect any decisions, there will be a dedicated meeting later on. Attendance is free (you do not get paid, though...), and you are all invited! Future Haifux lectures include: Latest kernel developments by Muli Ben Yehuda and Orna Agmon + 5-th haifux birthday party on 16/8/2004 Web Hacking by Nadav Har'EL on 30/8/2004 We are always looking for interesting lecture ideas, and we will soon begin to schedule the next season! Have a subject you want to talk about? Or a subject you'd like to hear someone else talk about? email us.
