If you have something like PartitionMagic, you can create a new partition called
/backup and store tarballs of user accounts and other needed backups there.
Keep it mounted read-only except for when you're backing up...

My /backup partition has all of my users' accounts in .tar.bz2 files and they
take up approximately one-quarter of the space they do on /home.  So, if you
have extra space, this might be a good way to go...
