Hi Ilya!
The need for such a tool is real and this is a real "itch" that you're scratching _but_
I installed this using MozillaFirebird and when that didn't work as a thunderbird extension and in both cases I got a installation succeded but I didn't get to see the notification button and worse -
all the mail in my inbox got erased!
I'm running fedora-core1 with kde3.2 beta and thunderbird-4a (nightly build) + firebird(0.6.1)
I'll be happy to supply anyother info and luckly my inbox didn't have anything importent in it anyway :).
thanks for the effort -
Lior

Hi,

Not really Israeli-related, but just wanted to share it with you:
Just finished coding a New Mail ("biff") notification for Mozilla and
Thunderbird. Install this extension and whenever you get new mail, an
envelope will pop-up in your KDE / GNOME taskbar (just like it does on
Windows).

Installation package[1] (click-n-install) for Mozilla / Thunderbird:

For now, I only compiled for Linux-i386 (send me binaries for your
own platform). And legal issues are unclear (parts of LGPL libegg,
parts of GPL/MPL Mozilla). And it doesn't use XUL so the look-n-feel
is GTK. But what the heck...

Share and enjoy!

[1] Install as root; for the time being, Mozilla doesn't support
per-user XPCOM components :(
