'top' is usually a part of the 'procps' package. As it happens, there are two competing implementations of procps, one located at http://procps.sourceforge.net/ and the other at http://tech9.net/rml/procps/. You can probably find out which one the distro you're using uses by looking at the information for your distro's procps package.
