If you work in unicode and use vim's builtin Hebrew support, run: :set aleph=1488 (To set it back to the default of 8bit Hebrew use ':set aleph=224') BTW: a slightly related topic: In one of my debian unstable computers the default font of gvim does not include Hebrew, and anyway it is too wide.
