I've upgraded to Fedora Core 1 from Redhat 9 during the
weekend. Barring two small incidents that I will describe below, it
went really smooth. Note that my Redhat system was fully up-to-date
package wise so the delta wasn't too big.

1) An environment variable (export IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH=1) needs to be
set before attempting to compile the Nvidia drivers from the kernel
headers. Otherwise the compilation unceremoniously dies. Thanks to the
kind folks on irc.freenode.net #fedora for pointing that out.

2) Fedora places the session information in
/etc/X11/dm/Sessions. Without placing a xfce.desktop file there I
couldn't get xfce to appear in the Gdm menu. Beforehand it did appears
but Fedora doesn't migrate your Gdm menu. I fixed this by poking
through the archives at fedora-list.

Two tips:

Give the fedora-users mailing list archive a good look through, they
have every sort of malfunction imaginable documented there. I'm
subscribed and it's invaluable.

Ask on irc.freenode.net #fedora, they help me out plenty.

Good luck.
