You mean 'make all && make install' ;-) 2.6 also requires new versions of several userspace utilities, which a distro will probably provide "out of the box". Please read Documentation/Changes and http://www.codemonkey.org.uk/docs/post-halloween-2.6.txt if installing 2.6.0-testX on your own.
