(Answering for the sake of archives)

That message is not exactly an error. It is probably not related to the
crash.

setxkbmap keeps its current map configuration as the property
_XKB_RULES_NAMES of the root window of the display. Beginning from XFree
4.0 (IIRC) this property is initially set by the X server when it sets
the initial keymap. This message simply means that no such keymap could
be found.

One possible reason for the above case is if you use XFree-3 as a server
with XFree 4 client libraries (including setxbkmap). So that message
regarding the missing property is expected and harmless.

Actually: you don't need XFree's keymap to write Hebre win vim: vim has
its own internal keyboard mapping. The atvantage for using the internal
keyboard mapping is that this allows you to still use the same keys for
commands.
