Actually, Winbind is used to read MS-Windows Domain accounts in unix, and not 
the other way arround. 
At my company we use it on our development servers and Linux workstations for 
a while now (2.2.8), and are quite happy with it. I've tested the 3.0 version 
on my workstation and I don't see any change in behavior compared to the 
older version - that is, it still works.
