Hi,
I've recently learned that imdb (www.imdb.com) the internet movie database
has what they call "AKA database".
IMDB is the most comprehensive user contribution based movie (and TV)
database online.
The AKA database is the "alternate title database" for the movies that allow
to lookup movie name by it aliases and various translated names.
Even though it seems that IMDB would allow submitting ISO 8859-8 alternate
title name , in reality its allowed only for films produced or co-produced
in Israel.
This restriction is not likely to be technical since the DB will allow
Hebrew in given circumstances.
This restriction is severely damaging the ability to use automated tools
(such as xmltv apps) for retrieving metadata on movies, since most of the TV
listings for Israel are in Hebrew.
I've recently initiated a thread in IMDB's forums requesting the ability to
submit alternate names in Hebrew here:
http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000042/flat/3077883
it seems to me that if this thread will get more convincing arguments and
traffic it might affect IMDB decision.
your help is needed ;)
